Basic Tools List:

This is almost impossible to select, since this depends upon the garden you have, hence I have made a list based upon what garden you might have. Please note that there is likely to be duplicate tools

  1. Lawns

    1. Besom Brush -- To remove worm casts

    2. Edging shears. -- To cut the grass at the edges

    3. Garden Fork -- Required for aeration of the ground.

    4. Hosepipe -- To get water to the lawn

    5. Lawn mower -- unless the area is so small shears will suffice

    6. Lawn edger -- Required if the lawn is adjacent to a border or bed

    7. Lawn Rake -- To remove dead thatch and leaves

    8. Lute -- Applying top dressings in Autumn

    9. Rake -- Used in the preparation for a lawn

    10. Roller -- Only required for real luxury lawns

    11. Sprinklers -- To ensure the lawn is watered well

    12. Strimmer -- Required if the lawn goes up to an upright or if allowed to grow long.

    13. Watering can with sprinkle bar -- Apply feed and weed

    14. Wheelbarrow -- General carrying duties
       

  2. Beds and Borders

    1. Border Fork -- Maintaining borders and beds

    2. Border Spade -- Maintaining borders and beds

    3. Compost Bin -- To return refuse from the borders into organic matter

    4. Garden Fork -- For the preparation of new borders, used in combination with another fork can be used to split certain perennials

    5. Garden Rake -- Maintenance

    6. Garden Spade -- For preparation of new borders

    7. Hoe -- keeping annual weeds down

    8. Hosepipe -- To supply the water

    9. Leaky pipe -- Water below the surface

    10. Trowel -- For planting new plants
       

  3. Shrub Border

    1. Border Fork -- Maintaining borders and beds

    2. Border Spade -- Maintaining beds and borders

    3. Compost Bin -- To return refuse from the borders into organic matter

  4. Propagation Tools

    1. Dibber -- To produce holes in growing medium, either for cuttings or transplanting.

    2. Heated Propagator -- Raises the temperature locally to stimulate germination.

    3. Plant Pots -- Sowing seeds or raising plants.

    4. Seed Trays -- For germinating seeds or raising small plants.

    5. Sieve -- A small mesh sieve is ideal for producing a fine covering for seeds.
