How To Grow Radish The Longer Version
How to grow radish at a glance
The radish is given the scientific name Raphanus sativus, and comes under
the same family as cabbages and cauliflowers, namely brassiciacae. This means that in theory
radishes can
experience the same problems as the other family members and thus should for
safety be included in the brassica section of your
crop
rotation plan. Sowing to harvesting can be as little as 4 to 8 weeks. This
short period lents the radish to being a catch crop in that it can be sown
between rows of slow growing vegetables.
The soil needs to be fertile and moist but should not have had fresh manure
added to it. Stones can cause the tap root to distort and thus it is best if
these are removed. For early and late sowings full sun is preferred, however as
the temperatures become higher some shade can be tolerated which can also prevent
bolting.
